Spongebob, Patrick, Sandy, Mr. Krabs, and Squidward are gonna be spending most of the movie on dry land. How exactly is that gonna work considering everyone but Sandy will most likely dry up and die on dry land? Spongebob and Patrick nearly died when they first met Sandy in her treedome and Spongebob and Patrick dry up in the first movie, so how exactly are they gonna make the four sea creatures live long enough on land before they start to dry up and die?
- Rodger Bumpass (the voice of Squidward) stated in an interview that a 'magical porpoise' helps the gang get onto dry land. It's a possibility that the porpoise might use it's magic on SpongeBob and the rest to make them survive on dry land.
- Also, the guys all went up on dry land before, and the only threat posed to them was a seagull. Also they were puppets. So it's all Negative Continuity / selective amphibianism.
- Bubbles the watcher grants Spongebob and Co. the power to breathe air after Spongebob saves him from a dead end job. I dunno how Plankton got the power though, because he was stowing away in Spongebob's sock. It's likely Bubbles knew about it or Plankton was just caught in the magic's effect because he was there.
- For the record, they only spent the climax on dry land, meaning the marketing chose to focus on that part for.. whatever reason.
- Why is Sandy still wearing her suit when she doesn't need it?
  - She removes the helmet but keeps the suit on because without it, she's in her underwear. As for her superhero form.. Rule of Funny.

- She died.
- Since this movie is a prequel to the first one, I assume Plankton just reassembled her. I doubt he wouldn't keep back-ups around.

- Stephen Hillenburg, the show's creator, has stated multiple times that the first movie takes place after all of the episodes, which implies that this movie takes place before it.
Why was Sandy helping them 'unbeach' that human when she knew it was a human?
- She tried to tell them it wasn't a porpoise, but they wouldn't listen.
- Easier than explaining. If she said it was a human, she would have to explain throughly what a 'human' is and what all the 'humans' are doing on land. Honestly, it's funnier that she just went along with them. (And, she was also smart enough to know that they didn't have the strength to carry the human.)
The fact that SpongeBob doesn't have the secret formula memorized is a major plot point in the film. However, in numerous episodes of the show ('Welcome to The Chum Bucket' and 'The Inside Job' spring to mind) he does know the formula from memory. What gives?
- The movie seems to take place somewhere in the middle of the show. This could mean that after this film, Krabs revised the manual so that employees could memorize the formula, hence SpongeBob remembering the formula in those episodes.
- Or maybe that rule was in place because of episodes like 'The Inside Job', so Plankton can't try the whole brain-hacking again. SpongeBob just un-memorized to follow the new rule.
- They do explain why he does not memorize the formula, so does that still matter?
- SpongeBob not remembering the secret Krabby Patty formula because the Krusty Krab Employee Manual forbid him from committing it to memory.. SORT of makes sense, when you remember he's SpongeBob, but Mr. Krabs WROTE the formula. Why doesn't HE remember what it is?
If Sponge out of Water happened before all the episodes, then why is SpongeBob working at the Krusty Krab? In the Pilot episode 'Help Wanted', Spongebob gets the job. If he got the job after Sponge Out Of Water had taken place, then why is he working there on Sponge out of Water?
- When people say that Sponge Out of Water is a prequel, they just mean that it occurred sometime before the first film, not the entire series.
When SpongeBob and Plankton are trying to get a team together, they went around going to Patrick, Sandy and Gary.. why didn't they think of going to Squidward for help? We know that SpongeBob likes him and that he's one of the smarter, more sensible characters.. It doesn't make sense to me.
- This is Squidward we're talking about. He would sell SpongeBob and Plankton just to end this insanity. And even if he did believe SpongeBob and Plankton were innocent, he wouldn't really help much, given his attitude of 'I will only help if I get something really good out of it, or it's easy for me to do'.
What really happened to the skeleton (That punches Burger Beard from stealing the Magic Book in the Beginning of the movie) when Burger Beard gets punched back into the island where he gets the book in the beginning by Plankton and what happened to burger beard and his seagull minions after the events of this movie?
If the main cast got ahold of a page from the storybook and could write literally anything into it to make it happen instantly, then why didn't they just write that Burger-Beard is defeated, the book is destroyed, the formula is back in their hands, and that they're back at home?
- They would need to find a way to defeat Burger-Beard first, right?
- Because it's rarely exciting or interesting to have the heroes solve their problems the easy way.
- While not outright stated, it's heavily implied that the book can't directly help you get what you desire the most. Burger Beard can't just wish to be super rich, so he goes for the next best thing and wish for a business that can help him with that. It's also why he can't be defeated directly with the book.
